Mitch McConnell has had more public health issues than Biden.
The Facts: 81-year-old Mitch McConnell froze again while speaking to the press yesterday. He was asked about reelection right before he froze. An aid came up and asked him, “Did you hear the question, Senator? Running for reelection in 2026?”
He was unresponsive.
The aid continued, “Alright, I’m sorry y’all. We’re gonna need a minute.”
Opinion time: Both events where McConnell froze, his eyes wandered as if they were going to roll back in his head. The GOP explained the first event as “feeling lightheaded.”
As someone who has felt lightheaded and fainted many times,
I’m 6 feet tall and pass out from getting up too quickly, standing for too long, and low blood sugar.
feeling lightheaded and having things “go black” right before passing out doesn’t explain the “freezing” with McConnell. I also suffered a stroke in 2016 and after McConnell’s first event, I said it looked more like the symptoms of stroke more than “feeling lightheaded.”
Regardless of my opinion (and lack of medical license) not rushing Mitch McConnell to the ER immediately after the first event was negligent. Putting party and optics over the health of a human being is unconscionable. It’s been reported that he was going to see a physician at some point after this recent event. Why did his aid not call 911 or rush him to the ER? With a stroke, the rules of F.A.S.T apply because seconds count! F= Face drooping, A= Arm weakness, S= Difficulty speaking T= Time to call 911.
The longer you wait, the more damage is done to the brain.
I was taken to a hospital with a broken CT machine during my stroke. Without the CT to confirm it was indeed a stroke, they couldn’t do anything to stop it. I won’t go into the reasons why. I had to wait 30 minutes for an ambulance to take me to a nearby hospital where I was able to get the scan. By then it was too late. The stroke was over and 3 difference areas of my brain had died, resulting in my entire left side being paralyzed, I was unable to speak, the left side of my face drooped, and I had no vision in my left eye.
This post isn’t about me, but I wanted to provide some context to show where my opinion comes from. Mitch could’ve experienced a mini stroke the first time, causing damage in an already recently concussed brain, and now it could have happened a second time. Mitch needs to seek medical attention immediately, not make a doctor appointment “at some point soon.”
All of this while the GOP elected officials and their pundits constantly point to Biden and say he’s “too old.” He’s younger than Mitch McConnell and Feinstein (that’s an entirely separate conversation)! He hasn’t frozen while speaking to the press. His “difficulty speaking” they talk about has nothing to do with his age or senility. Joe Biden has stuttered his entire life. (My son had a severe stuttering problem as a child, but it went away with years of speech therapy in school. It now only surfaces when he’s nervous or excited.)
So, GOP, if Biden is “too old,” what about Mitch?
