The crisis can be a contentious topic when it comes to U.S. Politics. Young activists, like Greta Thunberg, are getting louder when it comes to their feelings about the inaction of those in power. They are, after all, the people who will be living on the planet after we’re gone.
Young Activists
The people in power who can actually do something to stop the damage aren’t inclined to do so. There’s more money in denying the crisis than there is in fighting it. The post about young climate activists in Hawaii is just one example of the younger generation’s success in their efforts to push leaders for action.
Another post in the list: “Is it Real?”, which got it’s title from an actual Google search, goes to show just how powerful and effective the disinformation coming from the fossil fuel industry and our politicians can be. One of Zany Progressive’s goals is to get money out of politics, because it’s the dark money from the fossil fuel industry that causes our politicians to either ignore the problem, or attempt to convince the voters that it‘s just a hoax.
Gains in Legislation/Policies
We have actually seen some progress in protecting the environment. Wind and solar are growing in popularity, making it harder for those spreading disinformation to be successful. The Bipartisan Infrastructure bill passed by the Biden administration included a once-in-a-lifetime investment in renewable energy, tackling greenhouse gases, reducing our carbon footprint and other policies to react to the crisis of climate change in ways we hadn’t seen before.
There’s much more we could and should be doing, but until we get money out of politics it’s going to be an uphill battle.
