UPDATE: School Shooting In Georgia—2 students, 2 teachers killed

There was a shooting this morning, September 4, 2024 at a high school in Georgia. 2 students and 2 teachers were killed and 9 others injured.

Update: September 5, 2024

This is an update with some additional details to add to this story.

The father of the 14-year-old shooter, Colt Gray, has been arrested. The shooter received the AR-15 style rifle as a gift from his father. A search of their home also turned up documents belonging to the shooter that referenced information about past school shootings.

The father is being charged with second degree murder after purchasing the AR-15 style rifle in December.

This is after the FBI visited their home a year ago after Colt had posted images of guns with threats to shoot up a school. At that time the father told agents that he has hunting rifles, but his then 13-year-old son did not have unsupervised access to them. The FBI did not have any evidence that would have warranted an arrest of Colt at that time. They couldn’t prove the posts of gun photos and school shooting threats definitely came from him (and at the time, he denied it).

SO. The father gets a visit from FBI agents because his son was posting photos of guns and threatening to shoot up a school. Afterwards, his Dad thinks, “I’ll buy him an AR-15 for Christmas!” Are you effing kidding me? 🤦🏻‍♀️

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations released a statement soon after a school shooting took place at Apalachee High School in Barrow County. They stated that they were contacted by the Barrow County Sheriff’s office and asked to investigate a school shooting.

“At 10:20 this morning authorities in Barrow County received reports of an active shooter. Radio chatter from an Apalachee High School resource officer also indicated there was an active shooter. Law enforcement was on the scene within minutes. They immediately spotted the shooter, Colt Gray, who surrendered and was taken into custody.”

At that point they knew that 4 people had been killed, and 9 others injured (8 students and 1 teacher). Those injured were transported to various hospitals in the area.

There was a press conference at 9:00 PM followed by another statement recapping what they had revealed to the press at that time.

The shooter, Colt Gray, 14-years-old, was in custody and being charged with murder.

They also released more information about the students and teachers who were killed.

Mason Schermerhorn, age 14 (student)

Christian Angulo, age 14 (student)

Richard Aspinwall, age 39 (teacher)

Christina Irimie, age 53 (teacher)

“At this time there is no evidence to suggest that there were any additional shooters. Investigators are following up all leads regarding potential associates of the shooter.”

There also stated that there is no evidence that there is a “list of schools” being targeted, although a lot of evidence is being recovered. They announced that investigators are diligently reviewing leads to determine if there are any active threats.

“There was a call in to another school this morning with a threat. Police responded, investigated and determined that there was no threat.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details come in.
