Trump’s theory of Presidential power | 538 Politics video

In this episode of the 538 Politics podcast Galen speaks with constitutional law professor Peter Shane about presidential power and its limits during President Trump's second term.

President Trump has been pushing the boundaries when it comes to Presidential power in his second term.

He’s also been pushing the boundaries of what is normal or acceptable as the President of the United States.

Each day he appears to move farther away from democracy by acting as a king. New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently said (paraphrasing), ‘New York hasn’t labored under a king for over 250 years and we’re not about to start now.’

She made the remarks following an attempt by the Trump Administration to change a law or policy in her state. The President does not have the ability to change laws or policies enacted by state governments.
