Israel killed UN worker responding to paramedic massacre in Gaza

Israel killed the UNRWA employee, sent to respond to the paramedic massacre, where 15 first responders were killed, via a blow to the back of the head.

Editor: This news reminds us of the story of the 5-year-old Palestinian girl named Hind. She called for help from the back of a vehicle after the IDF fired on it, killing 5 members of her family and leaving her the sole survivor. The paramedic massacre left 15 first responders executed and buried in a shallow grave, but the killing of first responders has been happening all throughout the war. An Israeli tank shot up the ambulance carrying the first responders when they arrived to rescue Hind.

Hind and her family had just left their home after Israel ordered them to evacuate to South Gaza. The recording of Hindโ€™s phone call is heartbreaking. First responders were trying to pinpoint her location to rescue her.

Emergency services eventually discovered the location of her familyโ€™s vehicle and sent two first responders in an ambulance to rescue her. On the phone call, Hind tells the operator that a tank is coming towards the car. A short time later, you can hear rapid gunfire and Hind stops respondingโ€”after the sound of her screams.

The IDF murdered a 5-year-old child trapped in a bloody car surrounded by dead family members. They also killed the first responders when they arrived in the ambulance to rescue her.

Israel has been bombing hospitals and ambulances from the beginning. At first they attempted to explain themselves by claiming Hamas was operating under Al-Shifa hospital. They released a paper chart with Arabic writing on it, claiming it was a list of Hamas members. It didn’t take long for someone to translate it and dispute the claim, explaining there were no names on a โ€œchartโ€, it was simply a calendar with the days of the week written on it.

Propaganda is not new for Israel, itโ€™s the norm. They even released footage of โ€œGazaโ€ that was actually from a movie. Senator Mitt Romney and Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke in public about TikTok having more Palestinian content than Israeli with Romney saying, โ€œIsrael used to be so good at PR. What happened? It was an inside look at the real reason behind the TikTok ban.

Israel has a โ€œproblem with PRโ€ right now because social media allows the world to witness whatโ€™s really happening in Gaza. It turns out that human rights violations, war crimes, and the murder of children arenโ€™t very popular.

Here is the story, by Sharon Zhang, on the UN worker killed by the IDF from Truthout.org.

The UN has dubbed Israelโ€™s killing of a UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) rescue worker in March a โ€œsummary execution,โ€ sharing new details regarding Israelโ€™s widely condemned paramedic massacre that killed 15 first responders and aid workers.

The UNRWA worker, identified by the agency as Kamal, was wearing a UN vest and was driving a clearly marked UN vehicle when he was killed, officials reported on Wednesday, citing newly released information. Israeli forces killed him via โ€œone or multiple blows to the back of his skull,โ€ said UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.

โ€œA summary execution among more than 310 UNRWA staff killed in Gaza,โ€ Lazzarini said. โ€œKamal worked with UNRWA for over 20 years. He left his wife and children behind. He is one case too many. UNRWA teams are not a target. Impunity opens the door to more atrocities.โ€

On March 23, Kamal was called to respond when Israeli forces opened fire on 15 paramedics with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and Gaza Civil Defense who were on their way to rescue Palestinians caught in another Israeli attack.

For days, the employee and paramedics were reported missing by their respective organizations. Later, they were found buried in a shallow grave. Video footage, testimony and autopsies revealed that they had been executed one by one by Israeli forces, many with shots to the head or other horrific injuries.

The massacre drew international condemnation, but, despite making Gaza into the worldโ€™s deadliest place to be an aid worker, Israel has not faced any consequences for its slaughter thus far.

The UN human rights office in the occupied Palestinian territory condemned the killing as โ€œtruly shockingโ€ and reflective of a โ€œchilling pattern of violationsโ€ of international law by Israeli forces.

โ€œThis appears to be an incident of deliberate targeting and killing of medical and humanitarian personnel in violation of international law. These killings reflect the Israeli militaryโ€™s pattern of unlawful killings since the escalation of hostilities in Gaza began in October 2023,โ€ the agency said in a statement.

Officials have called for an investigation into the killing of Kamal and other humanitarian workers. The UN Human Rights Office also noted that Israelโ€™s own internal investigation of the incident โ€” which led only to a reprimand and the discharge of one commander โ€” is clearly insufficient for accountability.

The agency also highlighted the killings of numerous other civilians by Israelis, including the field execution of a family in December of 2023 and the killing of Adnan Al Bursh, a well-known orthopedic doctor at Al-Awda Hospital, in Israeli custody last year.

โ€œUN Human Rights Office is gravely concerned that the prevalence of unlawful killings, including extrajudicial executions, and the repeated nature of these violations, as well as the apparent absence of effective steps from the Israeli military to repress and punish most of these cases, imply that these killings are not isolated events and indicate that they are condoned by the military and civilian hierarchy,โ€ the office wrote.
