Benjamin Netanyahu has been trying to get the US to fight a war with Iran on behalf of Israel for decades. He’s come to the US to address Congress several times, speaking to them about why “it’s in our best interest to start a war with Iran.”
“The US has obtained new intelligence suggesting that Israel is making preparations to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, even as the Trump administration has been pursuing a diplomatic deal with Tehran, multiple US officials familiar with the latest intelligence told CNN.
Such a strike would be a brazen break with President Donald Trump, US officials said. It could also risk tipping off a broader regional conflict in the Middle East — something the US has sought to avoid since the war in Gaza inflamed tensions beginning in 2023.”
So far, Donald Trump has been the first President to defy Netanyahu—by negotiating with Hamas to free an American hostage and by refusing to bomb nuclear sites in Iran when Netanyahu wanted him to.
It’s unclear what President Trump will do because, during his first term, he ripped up the Iran nuclear deal, negotiated by President Obama and some of our allies, at Netanyahu’s request. It not only prevented them from stockpiling uranium to create nuclear weapons, but it allowed officials to investigate to ensure they were adhering to the agreement. It was a good deal.
Unfortunately, Netanyahu isn’t interested in peace with Iran. He’s unhappy about the Trump administration’s attempt at diplomacy with Iran, which is why he’s been saying Israel will bomb their nuclear sites. Israel lacks the ability to win a war with Iran, which is why they’ve been trying to get the US to engage in a war with Iran on behalf of Israel.
Not only would a war with Iran cost us billions/trillions, but we’d lose so many of our soldiers in a war that does nothing to benefit us. Unfortunately, Netanyahu knows if they attack first, Iran is likely to retaliate, and the United States would never let Israel fight a war with Iran all by itself. It’s a twisted form of reverse psychology to get what they want.
