Our Story

Serena Zehlius, Owner and Editor of Zany Progressive

The Zany Progressive

AKA Serena

I hope you enjoy the site and become a member for free today. Be sure to add me as a friend when you do! @owner-editor

After seeing Trump on television, speaking at a rally in 2019, Serena became obsessed with politics, government, and getting Donald Trump out of office. Prior to that, she embodied the saying, “Ignorance is bliss.” She didn’t watch the news or pay any attention to politics. Needless to say, she was happier.

Serena registered to vote and a group of friends did the same. For the sole purpose of voting Trump out in the 2020 election.

After the election and what occurred at the Capitol in 2021, Serena began posting fact-checks about fraud in the election. Friends that she went to high school with were caught up in the lies and the “Stop the Steal” movement.

Eventually, friends grew tired of her constant rants about what was happening in the government and in politics. Serena had to find another outlet for her political opinions. She moved to Twitter, where it seemed like everyone was discussing and debating politics. Perfect! She quickly grew her following to over 5,000 users—the majority of which came from the Resistance movement. #RESIST

After tiring of debating Trump supporters, who had an excuse for every piece of proof or evidence of facts she put forward. It was no longer good for her mental health. A website, she thought, was the best way to comment on the news and share factual information about what was going on in Washington, D.C. What began as a straight news blog has evolved into a one-stop destination for all content Progressive. She worked with media organizations like The Intercept, Mother Jones, and The Daily Beast, to obtain permission to republish their content. She also found amazing non-profit news organizations that allow republishing of their articles.

The result: A Progressive news website with a social media network (community) built-in that offer free memberships. She hopes to grow the site to become a place where progressives go to get the latest news, videos, podcasts, commentary, as well as to network and interact with other progressives. Members can utilize user groups to plan local events or protests. If we all come together and stand united against the corruption of the establishment in D.C., we could finally see some positive change in this country.
