Want to laugh? This page started out as a political cartoon collection post, but my intro paragraph turned into this.
Welcome to my zany brain!
Some people have called me a politics “junkie.” In fact, when this website went live in January of 2023 it was called: “Addicted To Politics” (addictedtopolitics.com) with the tagline: “Come get your fix.”
It made sense to me because I was addicted to heroin for about a decade and after I was sober for years, I realized that I had inadvertently replaced heroin with politics after Donald Trump came on the scene. I had made it my mission to get his ass out of the White House.
Back to the website—I started to feel like using the term “junkie,” even in relation to politics, could be offensive to other former and current addicts. Since Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert were starting to become popular and the GOP had started to lose its mind, I changed the title to Asylum-News.com: “Because politics are insane.” The website and different categories were set up as the “wards” of an insane asylum. The menu was called “The Map of the Asylum.”

Well, even though I was referencing the insane asylums of the past, I began to feel like maybe that term could be offensive to mental health advocates (Did you figure out that I’m an overthinker yet?).
After receiving an email from a mother asking for help with her son’s asylum case, I realized that Asylum News could be misleading and it wasn’t the right name either.
Searching for a new name and domain, I decided to go with a more descriptive title. For a short time, it was “Go Left News”, then went more generic with “Progressive News” progressivenews.com and all of its variations were taken so the site became progressivenewz.org. In fact, the name of my company is Progressive Newz, LLC.
I made an account on Tumblr for the site because I loved having a blog there years ago. I couldn’t find a title for the blog that was still available so I typed in “progressive” and looked through their list of auto-generated titles. “Zany Progressive” was there. “Zany” was the perfect adjective to describe me! I’m strange, funny, and I love to laugh.
There it is—The origin story for “Zany Progressive News”, shortened to “Zany News.” In fact, we are only a few months away from being given the official trademark for Zany Progressive™️. If you’ve never applied for a trademark, it’s VERY expensive, complicated, and takes 8+ months for the entire process.
Right now we’re at the stage where the trademark is published in a specific publication called the Trademark Gazette where anyone who wants to contest my ability to trademark the phrase can do so (pray that no one does!).
That would set me back and cost even more money, and I can’t afford to spend a dime more as a disabled woman on a fixed income. The amount they charge for a trademark application is high enough without paying it twice! By the way, if your application is denied, you’re just out of that money and would have to choose a new term and go through the process of applying for a trademark all over again.
